1. What is the ASA Store?
The ASA Store sells books and standards in electronic format for instant over-the-web delivery. (Only digital, downloadable content is for sale at the present time; no printed copies are sold in the store, but links to print-copy order forms are provided.) Payment is by credit card only (American Express, MasterCard, and Visa). Standards are available in the following categories:

  • American National Standards on Acoustics developed by the following ANSI-accredited Standards Committees:
    • S1 Acoustics
    • S2 Mechanical Vibration and Shock
    • S3 Bioacoustics
    • S12 Noise

  • ISO Standards developed by the following committees:
    • ISO TC 43 Acoustics
    • ISO TC 43/SC1 Noise
    • ISO/TC 108 Mechanical vibration and shock
    • ISO/TC 108/SC2 Measurement and evaluation of mechanical vibration and shock as applied to machines, vehicles, and structures
    • ISO/TC 108/SC3 Use and calibration of vibration and shock measuring instruments
    • ISO/TC 108/SC4 Human exposure to mechanical vibration and shock
    • ISO/TC 108/SC5 Condition monitoring and diagnostics of machines
    • ISO/TC 108/SC6 Vibration and shock generating systems

    2. How do I use the store?
    While anyone can freely browse and search the store, in order to purchase books and standards you must create an account (establish a username and password and provide billing and contact information). The first time you make a purchase, you will be guided through a check-out process that includes creating an account. Following successful account setup, you will be advanced to payment and confirmation screens. Currently, standards can only be purchased using these credit cards: American Express, MasterCard, and Visa. Following credit-card authorization, you will be able to download purchased content. On subsequent visits, logging in to the store will allow to view your order history, re-download PDFs that you've purchased on prior visits, update your profile, edit your membership credentials, and change your password.


    3. How do I make a purchase, step by step?
    1. Find books or standards by either searching or browsing the category listings.
    2. Add books or standards to your shopping cart.
    3. When ready to buy, click "Check Out"
    4. If you are a new user, "Continue"
    5. Fill in your billing address and optional ASA membership number and create a username and password then click "Continue to Promotions"
    6. If you have a promotion code enter it in the form provided and click "Continue To Review and Pay"
    7. Enter your credit card number and the three or four digit security code, you must agree to the terms and conditions Click on "Submit this order"(your credit card will be charged at this point)
    8. The receipt page will appear; Each item has a hyperlink to the electronic file(s) for your content

    4. How will ASA purchases appear on my credit-card statement?
    Charges for PDFs will appear as "AIP Online Store 1-800-344-6902."


    5. Are my store transactions secure and private?
    ASA Store customers are asked to provide personal data in order to make online purchases. This information is used solely to process your order and to contact you if necessary. We also use this information to set up the account information we store on your behalf, as well as provide you the means to review and modify it to ensure it is accurate and up-to-date. AIP's servers never store more than the last four digits of your credit card number. Furthermore, all online transactions via the store utilize a secure server and an automated credit-card authorization service protected by software that utilizes the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol.     6. What are the minimum web browser requirements to use the store?
    The latest versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer (), Netscape Navigator (), and Opera) can all be used safely and securely with the ASA Store. We recommend version 5.x or higher for each browser. Whichever browser you choose, it must be configured to accept "cookies" and must support JavaScript. The latest versions of each browser can be downloaded by clicking on the browser names above.


    7. How do I view and print the digital documents I buy?
    All books and standards sold in the store are delivered instantly to your desktop in Adobe's Portable Document Format (PDF). Acrobat 3.0 or higher is recommended for viewing and printing these files. You may use the freely available standalone Reader (), the browser "plug-in," and/or Acrobat Exchange. Acrobat products are available directly from Adobe Corporation (). The PDF file format was chosen since it preserves the original layout and style of the original printed standard. Books and Standard's PDFs cannot be edited, or otherwise manipulated. Printing and searching (using Acrobat's native search function) are supported, however.     8. Can I re-download PDFs I've already purchased without paying again?
    Yes. All the PDFs you've purchased will be listed on your order history screen. Simply log in to the store, click on the order history link, and you'll be able to re-acquire any PDF listed should you misplace it or damage the file. At the current time, you will have access to these PDFs as long as you maintain an account with the store.


    9. What information can I get regarding my purchases?
    Once you've created an account, you will have access to your order history, which lists all the Books and Standards that you have purchased in the store, including title, date of download, and other transaction details.


    10. Is there any special information applicable to international customers?
    Customers outside the U.S. are advised that they can locate their national International Organization for Standardization (ISO) member body by visiting the ISO web site: ISO Member Bodies ()

    12. What if I experience problems with the download and get a corrupt or incomplete file?
    If you discover an incomplete or otherwise corrupt PDF file, you can re-enter the store, log in, and access your order history page. You will be able to download any book or standard(s) that you have purchased without being charged again. If there were problems during the download that prevented you from successfully completing the transaction, and you are unsure if your credit card was charged, please contact Customer Service at the points of contact above for resolution. We want you to be completely satisfied with your purchase.

    15. Do you offer any discounts?
    Currently, only ASA Members are eligible for a 25% discount on Books and American National Standards. During the check-out process, you will be given an opportunity to indicate that you are an ASA member and will be asked to enter your membership number.     16. What if there are problems?
    Charge disputes should be reported to your credit card company in accordance with its reporting rules and procedures, and not directly to Customer Service. Your credit card company will contact the store for problem resolution.

    17. Can I order books and/or standards in other formats?
    Yes. ASA has published over 40 titles that are available in print format only. Books can be ordered by mail, phone or FAX; in addition, you may purchase CD-ROMs or a subscription. Available options are as follows:
    • To obtain print copies of a book, download a print-copy order form (), print it out, and follow the instructions for payment and placing orders.

    • To obtain print copies of any standards, search or browse the store for what you wish to order, download a
      print-copy order form (), print it out, and follow the instructions. Note that you will have to record the standard number
      ( STET ) for each standard you wish to order this way.

    • If you wish to purchase standards developed by IEC/TC29 Electroacoustics (), they are only available in printed format;
      note the IEC/TC29 standard(s) you wish to order (a list appears here), download the order form (), and follow the instructions.

    • If you want to obtain books or standards in CD-ROM format or by subscription, click here ().

    18. What are the copyright rules and terms of use governing digital ASA Books and Standards documents that I purchase?
    As for copyright, no portion of the books or standards copyrighted by the Acoustical Society of America may be quoted or reproduced in any form without permission of the ASA. Requests to reproduce any book or standard in whole or in part should be addressed to the ASA.For permission for standards contact the Standards Secretariat at the address above. For permission for Books contact the ASA office at the address above.

    No portion of the International Standards copyrighted by ISO or IEC and distributed by ASA under licensing agreement with the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) may be quoted or reproduced in any form without permission of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) at 13 West 42nd Street, 13th Floor, New York, NY 10036 USA.

    19. What do I do if I've forgotten my username?
    Should you forget your username, you must create a new account.


    20. What do I do if I know my username but have forgotten my password?
    If you've forgotten your password, please proceed as follows:
    • Contact customer service by phone at either +1 800 874 6383 (U.S. and Canada) or +1 516 576 2664 (other locations)
    • You will need to know your username and the e-mail address provided when you set up your account
    • The customer service representative will assign a temporary password and e-mail it to the address you provide
    • Upon reaccessing the system, immediately reset your password and record it in a safe place

    21. How do I manage my account?
    When you are logged in to the store, there are several account-maintenance areas where you can view and/or modify your user information, including:
    • View Order History / Order Tracking - enables you to view the details of your transactions and serves as the gateway to re download your files.
    • Change your E-mail, Password or Member Number - enables you to securely change your password, update your email address or add your ASA member number to your account
    • Modify Addresses in Your Address Book - enables you to update your billing address
    • Add Addresses to Your Address Book - enables you to enter alternative billing address and contact information
